To set up IPTV on an Android TV box or Google TV device, install a player from the Google Play Store, open it, and sign in with the Xtream Codes details from your provider. Unlike a Samsung or LG television, these devices can also sideload apps, which is what makes them the most flexible option.
Which devices this covers
Anything running Android TV or Google TV: a Chromecast with Google TV, an Nvidia Shield, a Mi Box, a Sony or Philips television with Android built in, and the generic boxes sold under dozens of names. They share one app store and one install process.
They are not the same as an Android phone box running plain Android. If your device has a touch-style launcher rather than a row-based television interface, apps will install but the remote may not drive them properly.
Install a player from Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store from the home screen.
- Search for an IPTV player that supports Xtream Codes. TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro are both on Play.
- Install, then open it.
- Choose the Xtream Codes login and enter your username, password and server URL.
If the player you want is not on Play in your country, install the Downloader app and sideload it, exactly as on a Firestick. Developer options must be switched on first: Settings → Device Preferences → About, then press Build seven times.
Three settings worth changing straight away
| Setting | Change it to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer size | 5000–10000 ms | Gives the player more room to absorb a dip in the connection before the picture stops. |
| Decoder | Hardware, falling back to software | Hardware decoding keeps cheap boxes cool and smooth; software is the fallback for an odd codec. |
| Time zone | Your actual location | A wrong time zone is the most common reason a programme guide looks shifted or empty. |
Storage and heat on cheap boxes
Budget boxes ship with 8 GB of storage and fill up. A player holding a large programme guide needs room to work, and an almost-full box stutters in ways that look exactly like a bad connection. Clear the app cache monthly and uninstall what you do not use.
Heat does the same thing. A box in a closed cabinet throttles its processor and drops frames. Give it air.
If IPTV on an Android TV box keeps stalling
Wire it in. An Ethernet cable is the single most effective change for most people, and almost every box has a port. Where that is not possible, move to the 5 GHz band and keep the box out of a metal cabinet. The rest of the checks, in the order worth trying them, are on our buffering fixes page.
Questions people ask
Does Room IPTV Pro have its own app?
No. We supply the subscription; the player is a third-party app you choose. Any player that accepts an Xtream Codes login will work, which also means you are never locked into one piece of software.
Can I move my subscription to a different box later?
Yes. Message the team and we will move it. What you cannot do is run it on two devices at once — one subscription covers one device, and a second device needs its own.
Which box should I buy?
Any current Android TV or Google TV device with an Ethernet port and at least 2 GB of memory. Spending more buys a faster interface rather than a better picture. Try the service on what you already own first with a free trial.
